Lectures held at St Andrew's are organised by the St Andrew’s Trust for the Study of Religion and Society
Douglas Mews plays Frescobaldi Toccatas and Partitas on an Italian Virginal. J. S. Bach owned copies of Frescobaldi’s keyboard works, written a century earlier, and admired them greatly. Frescobaldi was the hot-blooded organist of St Peter’s in Rome, whose keyboard style ranged from quixotic to hypnotic. An Italian virginal is the ideal instrument to display his wonderfully inventive music. Audience is limited according to alert levels.
