William Berry is a 21-year-old pianist from Lower Hutt. He was previously taught by Elizabeth Marrison, Ludwig Treviranus and Gillian Bibby. He obtained a degree in piano performance from Victoria University under Dr Jian Liu. He has succeeded in many local and national competitions, being a semi-finalist in the 2022 National Concerto Competition and 2024 Lewis Eady National Piano Competition along with winning the 2023 IRMT Wellington Sonata Celebration. William won the 2023 NZSM concerto competition which gave him the opportunity to perform Rachmaninoff Concerto 2 with orchestra. He was sponsored by Professor Jack C Richards to attend the Semaine Internationale de Piano in Switzerland in 2022, where he was selected to perform as a young artist in 2023. He has played in masterclasses for Boris Berman, Edith Fischer, James Giles and Joyce Yang. William is entering the third year of his law degree at VUW this year and has been invited to partake in the honours programme.
