Lectures held at St Andrew's are organised by the St Andrew’s Trust for the Study of Religion and Society
The trio consists of Monique Lapins (violin), also a member of the NZ String Quartet, Ken Ichinose (cello) – associate principal with NZSO and Gabriela Glapska (piano). Named for Beethoven’s famous work for piano trio, the Ghost Trio was founded in mid-2019 as one of Gabriela’s PhD recital projects.
Having quickly realised that they immensely enjoy playing together, they decided to continue working as a trio. All three are accomplished soloists and chamber musicians with diverse backgrounds. They have toured nationwide for Chamber Music New Zealand’s Music Up Close series, a tour where their performances were described as possessing “elan and unfailing attention to musical detail” Leon Gray – Tauranga Musica.
For this concert, Ken Ichinose has become unavailable so will be replaced by Andrew Joyce, Principal Cello of the NZSO. Two violin/piano duos are bookended by two great piano trios
Robert Schumann, Piano Trio No 1, Op 63 (1847)
Leonie Holmes, “Dance of the Wintersmith” (2017)
Kaija Saariaho, “Calices” (2009)
Maurice Ravel, Piano Trio in A minor (1914)
