Today’s service is led by Rev Dr Fei Taule’ale’ausumai and Mark Stamper

 PRELUDE

El Shaddai/Amazing Grace

arr. Mark Stamper

 CALL TO WORSHIP

As we begin our time of worship, may we each be challenged and engaged to reflect on our spiritual journey. In our past, there have been songs, important words, scriptures, poems, and significant moments that have shaped each of our journeys, so take time, relax into, and struggle with your past, present, and the times that are yet to come. Let us all now further our spiritual journeys!

PROCESSIONAL HYMN ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’
Tune:  NICÆA
Words: Jim Burklo; Music: John Dykes

  1. Holy, holy, holy, love now ascending,
early in the morning our song shall rise to you.
Holy, holy, holy, joy that has no ending,
    giving, forgiving, breathing life anew.

  1. Holy, holy, holy, love without a limit,
care that binds creation in sacred unity.
Holy, holy, holy, birthing every minute,
Christ, Love’s revealer, sets our spirits free.

  1. Holy, holy, holy, infinite compassion
makes a place for every soul in God’s eternal reign.
Holy, holy, holy, truth beyond religion,
love that endures should nothing else remain.

  1. Holy, holy, holy, raise your voice in singing.
Join the cosmic chorus in praise of Love divine.
Holy, holy, holy, God beyond all naming,
echoes our song in harmony sublime.

OPENING PRAYER Rev Dr Fei Taule’ale’ausumai

THE WORD IN TEXTS  John Harper

Old Testament Reading                Psalm 150 (The Message)

Isaiah 40: 25-31 (CEV)

RESPONSE

For the Word in scripture,

for the Word among us,

for the Word within us,

we give thanks.

SUNG RESPONSE ‘Thy Word is a Lamp’
Tune:  THY WORD
Words: Michael W. Smith; Music: Amy Grant

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid and think I’ve lost my way,

still you’re there right beside me.

Nothing will I fear as long as you are near.

Please be with me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.

PASSING THE PEACE

Traditionally we shake hands to pass the peace and say “peace be with you.”  Now that COVID-19 is here we ask that you pass the peace without shaking hands.

LIGHTING THE RAINBOW CANDLE

We light the rainbow candle as a sign of our inclusivity and for our children.

FAMILY TIME Wealth, Success, and Love

WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC ‘My Tribute’
arr. Mark Stamper

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Lois Robertson

CIRCLE OF PRAYER

We think today of the people of Yemen and the people and organisations working towards global poverty eradication.  We hold all refugees in our hearts and pray in particular for those who are still detained in Nauru.  We give thanks for recent progress and pray that their calls for justice might yet be answered with compassion.  In New Zealand, we remember those in Parliament, and today we name Chlöe Swarbrick (Auckland Central) and Jan Tinetti (List).  Here in the Central Presbytery we pray for the leaders and people of St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Waipukurau.

PRAYER FOR ST ANDREW’S

Renew your people, God,

and renew our life in this place.

Give us a new spirit of unity

with all who follow the Way of Jesus

and new bonds of love

with people of other faiths.

Bless the city in which we live

that it may be a place

where honest dealing,

good government,

the desire for beauty,

and the care for others flourish.

Bless this church

that what we know of your will

may become what we do,

and what we believe

the strong impulse

of our worship and work.

Amen

Gospel Reading  Matthew 6:25-34 ‘Do not worry’

RESPONSE

For the Word in scripture,

for the Word among us,

for the Word within us,

we give thanks.

SUNG RESPONSE ‘On Eagle’s Wings’
Tune:  EAGLE’S WINGS
Words and Music: Michael Joncas

And God will raise you up on eagles’ wings,
bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of God’s hand.

JESUS’ PRAYER Jim Cotter paraphrase

Eternal Spirit

Life-Giver, Pain-Bearer, Love-Maker,

source of all that is and that shall be,

Father and Mother of us all,

loving God, in whom is heaven:

the hallowing of your name

echo through the universe!

The way of your justice be followed

by the peoples of the world!

Your heavenly will be done

by all created beings!

Your commonwealth of peace and freedom

sustain our hope and come on earth.

With the bread we need for today, feed us.

In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us.

In times of temptation and test,

strengthen us.

From trials too great to endure, spare us.

From the grip of all that is evil, free us.

For you reign in the glory

of the power that is love, now and for ever.

Amen.

HYMN ‘Amazing Grace’
Tune:  NEW BRITAIN
Words: Isaac Newton; Music: William Walker

  1. Amazing Grace how sweet the sound
    that lifted one like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

  1. The Lord has promised good to me,
    the Word my hope secures.
They will my shield and portion be,
    as long as life endures.

  1. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.

  1. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
    the sun forbear to shine.
But God, who called me here below,
    will be forever mine.

SUNG RESPONSE
Give thanks with a grateful heart.

Give thanks to the Holy One.

Give thanks because He’s given many gifts to us.

And now, let the weak say, “I am strong.”

Let the poor say “I am rich because of

what our God has done for us.” Give thanks.

Contemporary Reading                     ‘Self Help’ by Charles Bernstein

Closing Thought Rev Dr Fei Taule’ale’ausumai

Each of us have spent time rediscovering our spiritual journey, so let us take forth our perspective and shine the light of Christ into the world. Our experiences, thoughts, and ideas are vital to our individuality.
Share your story!

HYMN ‘Come Thou Fount of Ev’ry Blessing’
Tune:  NETTLETON
Text: Robert Robinson

  1. Come Thou fount of every blessing,
    tune my heart to sing Thy grace;
    streams of mercy never ceasing
call for songs of loudest praise.

Teach me some melodious sonnet,
sung by flaming tongues above.
Praise the mount, I’m fixed upon it,
mount of Thy redeeming love.

  1. Oh, to grace how great a debtor,
    daily I’m constrained to be;
    let goodness like a fetter,
bind my wandering heart to Thee.

Prone to wander, Lord I feel it,
prone to leave the God I love.
Here’s my heart, oh take and seal it,
seal it for Thy courts above.

BENEDICTION

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind be always at your back.

May the sunshine warm upon your face,

the rain fall softly on your fields

and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of God’s hand.

SUNG AMEN
