E NEWS 4TH APRIL 2025

Talofa lava, Tena koutou e hoa ma.  Easter is fast approaching and Holy week will be a busy time for us with the Maundy Thursday Passover/Last Supper meal, Good Friday and Stations of the Cross and Easter Sunday.

The South Cluster group met at Jenny and Pauls house on Saturday morning, there were 13 of us present and it was a great time of fellowship and eating.  Jenny and Paul are doing well and it was great to see them and share a meal at their home.

The next Cluster group for the North region will be at the Kirby’s on Saturday 12th April, next week out at their home in Churton Park.  If you live in that area and would like to attend please let Sandra know at sandra@thekirbys.co.nz it is from 11am.  Parking on street only.

Passover/Last Supper Meal Maundy Thursday 17th at 6pm please can you RSVP to myself or Jemma as soon as you are able.  Most of the food is taken care of but feel free to bring a bottle of wine or grape juice to share.  We could probably do with  one more salad (greens), unleavened bread.  There are two legs of lamb and 1 roll of nut meat for the vegetarians.  It is bound to be a nice solemn occasion.

We had the Elite Brownies fundraiser here in our Hall on Tuesday evening, it had 3 MPs from Parliament, myself doing the blessing,  Buckwheat MCing, (believe it or not, I was his (he doesn’t do pronouns) Sunday School teacher way back in the days of Noah.  This event was organised by Dr Karlo Milo Pacific Poet.  There was an auction and the sale of brownies.  They raised over $7k from the night.  Wow! perhaps this is something we might consider for our fundraising as well.  I’m sure we all have something that is recyclable of good value that we could auction off including baked goods etc and artwork if we were to consider this option.  Watch this space.  Photo of the flamboyant Buckwheat.

We have just had a staff meeting and celebrated Germaine’s 25th birthday and Jemma’s 1st Anniversary since she began at SAOTT.  Congratulations to them both.

This Sunday our service will be led by our Moderator for Central Presbytery Rev Leanne Munro.  She is stepping in for me as I go to Auckland to shared in the Christening/Baptism of our miracle baby blessing Alipati Junior now over 4 months old.   It is a share lunch this Sunday so everyone please bring some food to share and don’t forget to sing the Maori Grace printed on the wall by the servery.

All 14 Stations of the Cross now have been filled with volunteers.  We have contributions from two members of our community who may not be present on the day so I will be asking someone to read their contribution for their Station of the Cross when the time comes.

The interesting news is that nominations for Moderator Designate for the PCANZ closes today at 5pm  Yours truly has been nominated by 3 churches in 2 Presbyteries.  After last times unjust debacle I’m not holding my breath but will await the outcome if the process is fair and just.  There has never been a Pacific woman moderator in the PCANZ to date so it will be history in the making should this become a reality.

Enjoy your Sunday lunch and fellowship, I shall be thinking of you all.  Ma le faaaloalo lava, Faafetai.  Fei
