E NEWS 20TH SEPTEMBER 2024

Tena koutou e hoa ma. kei te pehea koutou I tenei wiki o te reo Maori? How have you been this week of Maori language week?

Wow! what a great Animal Blessing service we had on Sunday. We had 8 dogs and 2 photos of Jane and Richard Keller’s cat all on stage for the blessing. We have had a great response from everyone who attended accompanied and unaccompanied by a pet. My friend said to me that the use of the word “owner” should have been replaced with another word perhaps “carer of a furry companion” to be consistent and in line with the teaching that we should not have dominion over but live alongside with creation. Good point, noted for next time. The dogs were so well behaved, no barking (just a tiny disagreement on stage, no accidents so will definitely diary it in again.

On Monday morning I was invited to bless the new premises of the Ministry of Pacific People’s who have moved down to 44 The Terrace, they now occupy one floor instead of two as they did up at 103 The Terrace. They are hoping to use our Conference premises in the future for their meetings, so that is a definite plus for us.

Last night I represented our church at the Mayor of Wellington’s special function to Living Wage Employers and we were all given a Certificate of Appreciation. There were about 70-80 people present and nice spread of finger food. So glad to be appreciated by Wellington Council for who we are and what we represent.

The play I was supposed to attend last Friday at the Circa was postponed until last night due to illness it was called “Body Politics” about the Body Corporate for a block of apartments called Green Meadows. There was one Director who was completely dictatorial, and autocratic and not consulting but telling residents what should and should not be done. There were four actors and I’m sure those of you who live in dwellings with Body Corporates can relate very much to the politics and shenanigans of what goes on.  If you live in a body corporate and haven’t seen it you might like to go and see for yourself if this is reflective of your context. Certainly has put me off considering the apartment option.
Where oh where has the month of September gone?  Yesterday on my Facebook my nephew posted a video of him and my mum in his car fighting over petrol money, he was refusing and mum was insisting and he said, “Happy heavenly birthday grandma”  OMG, she would have been 93 yesterday and without his prompt I may have forgotten.  Hari Huritau mum.

This Sunday is Humanity which was deferred from the first week of September. Ross Scott will be leading the reflection entitled “I didn’t do it”.  We are looking forward to our penultimate Season’s of Creation service. Next Sunday we are being led by Anna Smith and some members of the Y Group, the theme is “Our Planet”.

Well, if its fine tomorrow I will mow the lawns and hang out my washing. There is so much more to the domestic life of a single minister which can’t be set aside you have to grab the opportunity whilst you can weather permitting. Enjoy your weekend. Have a good day, Ka pai te ra. Fei.
