E NEWS 31ST MAY 2024
I’m just off to Queen Margaret College for a Samoan lunch as part of Samoan language week, le vaiaso o le gagana Samoa. Yesterday I was at the NZRU as SAOTT minister to pray for the Special Meeting to vote for new proposals to the NZRU Board on behalf of Pacific Advisory Group in securing a voice for Pacific rugby. SAOTT is definitely moving our outreach further into the local community.
In continuing with Samoan language week on Wednesday the National Library hosted an event with Samoa Radio showcasing archival film footage of Samoa from 1916 up to 1965. On behalf of SAOTT I was gifted with a framed black and white photo of 3 Samoan women circa. early 1900’s. It now graces my wall in the office.
Ross Scott is taking our Sunday Communion service, here’s what he has to say:
Like most of you I am coming to terms with this weekend being ‘Kings birthday’. As a child my grandfather stated as a matter of pride that he had had 5 sovereigns including two woman during his life time. I am now at the age Grandad was when he made this claim. I’m starting my second sovereign, and I must confess it is not a big deal. Times have changed.
When in Austria I learnt that when royalty had a party they invited the key guests to join them in the meal and then another layer of guests to come and stand round the walls and watch. Times have changed.
On Monday I will not talk excitedly about the two sovereigns I have had. But I will take the day off work. And as I do I will be reflecting on how on the Kings official birthday the focus is not of the King getting the day off but rather the focus is on me. It is not for the King but for those of us, who either gladly or reluctantly or some where in-between, have him as head of state. Kings birthday is kinda of like the Sabbath which I will be talking about on Sunday.
Faafetai ma ia manuia, Fei & Ross.
