Tēnā tātou katoa. Lynne Dovey was farewelled last night as retiring Chair of Queen Margaret College Board of Trustees. Lynne joined the Board as a Presbytery Representative in 2016 providing a core link with the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand and was appointed QMC Board Chair in 2020.
We farewelled Christine last Friday and were looking forward to Jemma starting this week. Unfortunately she got COVID and will now begin next Tuesday.
Our family from Switzerland – Julian Wahlen, Anna Papst and 4 year old Iacob Papst have returned home after six months here in Wellington. They thoroughly enjoyed their time with us and wish to pass on their thanks and farewell. We also enjoyed having them worship with us. Hey Julian and Anna, if you are still reading our E News please know that this is your new home away from home and we hope you may return again.
Hutt City Cluster group met at the Cunninghams’ for pizza, salad and dessert last Friday night. There was total of 15 people including Kezia and Jasper and it was a great time of fellowship, food and friendship.
The Worship Committee met on Tuesday lunchtime. We will be returning our Family time to focus back specifically on our children whether they are there or not. I will now lead family time each Sunday and I will continue to call on our current family time volunteers from time to time. We have enjoyed the various stories from our volunteers and we thank you all for your thoughtful, insightful and wonderful contributions. I know for many of my clergy colleagues, the children/family time is a lot harder to prepare for than the sermon. So I appreciate the offerings we have had over this past year.
This Sunday is our Congregational bi-monthly shared lunch which we have dedicated as a memorial wake for Lloyd Jobson’s life. Please can everyone bring a plate of food to share enough for such an occasion. The programme will be as follows:
Welcome by Fei
Molly to introduce family & friends
Tribute by Molly
Guitar by Mike Wespel Rose sing song together
Karakia for food & blessing, Fei
Tributes from family and community.
Molly to say thanks.
Blessing: Fei.
Please feel free to join us for all or part of this celebration. Everyone is welcome.
This week is suicide prevention week it will be acknowledged in our contemporary reading. It is Easter 3 and the lectionary Gospel readings tell the stories of Jesus appearing to the disciples at various times post resurrection. My reflection theme is “Seeing Jesus in the faces of the downtrodden”.
Tonight, London based Soprano Aivale Cole aka Mabel Faletolu, born and raised in Wellington, a former child of Newtown Pacific Islanders Presbyterian Church, has a concert tonight at our Church at 7.30pm. “To Aotearoa with Love”. Aivale had the honour of being invited to sing at the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. So far 150 tickets have been sold so it will be a packed church tonight. I will definitely be attending.
I have hospital and home pastoral visits over the next few days. Please go gently this weekend.
Faafetai, Fei.
