In real estate It’s either a buyer’s market or a seller’s market. TV One news tonight says it’s a buyer’s market. For me trying to both buy and sell a house means it’s six of one and half a dozen of the other. Unfortunately, on 9th February when I won the tender on the house, I’m currently renting it was a seller’s market and so my tender was quite high. Within days the market spiralled downwards I was hoping to buy for the same price I would sell my house for, “like for like”. Unfortunately, I’m buying high and now selling low which is something I had not anticipated. My house was on the market for 3 months and hasn’t sold, the contract with the real estate has expired yesterday and I haven’t extended it.
It’s interesting, the automatic gate at my house had stopped working due to there being no electricity three weeks ago. The man mowing the lawns let me know he couldn’t get into the property for 3 weeks. For over 3 weeks there was no access to the house and not once did the real estate ring me to tell me they couldn’t get through to the house. So, what happened to 3 weeks of supposed open homes? They obviously weren’t trying to sell my house, and assumed because I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t know what they were up to. Obviously, if they were doing open homes and couldn’t get in, they would have rung me, but they didn’t. I’m very disappointed with them.
So now my tender on this house I’m renting in the hope of buying expires in two weeks’ time, I will not be extending it. I will remain on here as a tenant for another month until the end of June and then I will be looking again for somewhere to stay unless they extend my tenancy. They still have open homes here hoping to get an unconditional buyer, so once a week strangers are traipsing through my private home and I live in uncertainty. I’m relisting with another real estate agent next week for a month, after which I will rent my Auckland house out if there is no sale. I really want to live in my own home as I have two fur babies and we need a house that is dog friendly for them too. Fingers crossed for a house sale soon. Watch this space. Fei.
