Here we are the first week in June and it is a time which evokes a whole range of thoughts and reactions. Classically it is said to indicate a change of season – moving from the end of autumn to the beginning of winter. That means that it can create considerably different feelings and attitudes. For some it means time to stay indoors and try to keep dry and warm so it can be a restrictive time and i at least a bit depressing. For others it means that snow has come, or if it has not come yet it will quite soon and that means a time of adventure and exhilaration getting up to one of the ski fields or climbing or tramping and a whole range of winter sports, usually team sports which have their particular interest, pleasure, and satisfaction. Every season presents an opportunity. The question for us, whatever our age and stage, is what we are going to do to enable us to have a stimulating, entertaining and rewarding time this winter. There is the opportunity and the possibility of something special in the way we relate to other people. This may be someone who we know well spending time recalling things we have done or reviewing and expanding on things we have talked about before. It is also the opportunity of meeting people for the first time and finding out what are the things about which we have a mutual interest. So may we this winter, enjoy our interaction with people we know well and those with whom we have only very recently become acquainted. Usually it is more interesting to do both so may it be that way for you this winter.
