Morena!

This Sunday we will be reflecting together on the Transfiguration, the story from Mark’s Gospel which describes how  the three disciples Peter, James and John experience a vision of  an illuminated Jesus in conversation with Moses and Elijah.
Visions can be upsetting and unsettling as the disciples found out. The contrast between their everyday lives and this inexplicable happening leaves them initially fearful and confused. But as they descend from the mountain and journey on, the vision is grounded in the compassionate actions of Jesus, his challenging teaching and his wise interactions with others. Gradually (very gradually!) they understand a little more.
We all have our own vision of what Jesus and the life of faith means for each of us and may describe this in very different terms. But what we all have in common is the need to experience and express that faith in our daily lives. This year, I am using a book called “Small simple ways- an Ignatian daybook for healthy spiritual living” by Vinita Hampton Wright. Every day there are a few thought provoking sentences and one action to experiment with. The writer notes that small daily actions become habits, and habits become attributes, and attributes can influence the direction of our whole lives. I’ll let you know!
May your visions enlarge you,
your faith sustain you,
and your actions
express your love,
this and every day.
