The Living Wage election night is at St Peter’s, Willis St on Wednesday 30 August 7-8.30pm. We’ve been asked to bring banners.
The Centre for Theology and Public Issues’ candidates’ night is today week, Friday, August 31. The church as venue has also been donated by St Andrew’s for this discussion on ‘honest leadership in a post truth world.’ We’ve hosted 4 pre-election nights at St A’s – good to contribute to the debate.
Last week, auto-correct replaced ‘electoral’ with ‘electrical’ in the notice on websites to which young people relate. The electoral process has been electric – the most unpredictable in my memory. Which leader will resign next?
Speaking of leadership, two parish councillors step down at our AGM on November 5. Could you take on councillorship for 3 years? Or, who might you might nominate? Talk to Susan if you have inklings either way. Often people appreciate knowing someone else thinks they’d be good in such a role. Why don’t you ask someone to consider? Get on to it now so they have time to make an informed decision. St Andrew’s has been well served by its leaders in the past. I’m sure there are people equally suitable to carry the torch!
Qualities to look for are among the following: willingness to explore/grow spiritually, a vision for evolving church in the inner city, commitment to St Andrew’s (associate or full membership), thoughtfulness; skills in finance or pastoral work or admin or strategy, theology or social justice/the arts; ability to read papers, time to commit to a monthly meeting and some other work between meetings, in short, someone living into their potential as a human being. Talk to Susan about whether you or someone else is so endowed. The list is not intended to be prescriptive but inviting!
In September we plunge officially into Spring, celebrating Creation month, highlighting Rivers and Water, Land, Forest and High Country. But, before that, this coming Sunday Margaret Rushbrook is bravely talking about how her thinking has changed over time. It will be great to see you all there supporting her and celebrating the last official Sunday of winter!
