Morena e hoa ma ki te ingoa a Ihu Karaiti. It is indeed very sad news this morning as we learn of the death of King Tuheitia pootatau-te-wherowhero-vii aged 69. We remember his family his wife, children and grandchildren and all of Maoridom and our country Aotearoa as we mourn his death. Moe mai ra, moe mai ra. Ia manuia lou malaga.
CHURCH BIBLE. Our big bible that normally sits under the Iona Cross on the communion table disappeared sometime this week. On my way out to the car earlier this week I did notice a man standing at the back of the church and when I entered the church he turned his back on me. I did think at the time that he looked a little suspicious but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and let him be. If you or anyone knows of the bible’s whereabouts please let myself or the office know. Thank you.
My apologies for thinking wrongly that Seasons of Creation began last Sunday, I was a week ahead of myself. It begins this Sunday. We were due to begin with Humanity, Tangata and Ross Scott was sharing the reflection. Unfortunately, Ross has Covid so I have swapped weeks to Moana, Oceans which I will lead this Sunday.
In two weeks’ time we have “Animal Sunday” and you are invited to bring along your pets to church and we will celebrate for the first time for me anyway the blessing of animals as part of our worship service. Something to look forward to.
“Manuia le aso sa a Tama” This Sunday is also Father’s Day or significant day for men or they them in your life. I hope you will all be smothered with much love and blessings from those near and far and dear to you.
My phone is still in the repair shop, the day I thought I was due to pick it up I rang to make sure it would be ready and the woman said to me on the phone, “we are still waiting for you to confirm that we go ahead with the repair”. Anyway long story short thank God for insurance I’m told the repair will cost $1,300, excess is $250. They haven’t written it off as the phone is twice that value, but I believe it is getting a complete overhaul, at least I hope it is. They have just rung me and it is ready to be picked up. Terrible withdrawal symptoms all week, it’s quite embarrassing to realise how dependant I have been on my phone, it is literally my mobile office!
This Sunday our reflection theme is “for those in peril on the sea” taken from the seafarer’s hymn “Eternal father strong to save”. We have sung it at a couple of funerals over the last two years for members of our church who have died who had a close association with the sea. It not only refers to seafarer’s, sailors and navy folk but also to small island nations who live with the threat of rising sea levels and the effects of climate change every day.
It is also Communion Sunday and if you are able I look forward to seeing you then. Enjoy the sun. Sunday will be the first day of spring. Hallelujah. Ka kite ano. Fei
