WELCOME TO ST ANDREW’S ON THE TERRACE

GATHERING

“Be still, and in the stillness know,”

said the psalmist,

that God is the same:

still and silent

and wondrous.

 

So let us wonder now, together,

about the unfathomable things:

like brokenness, devastation, and grief,

like wholeness, compassion, and love.

 

Wisdom that permeates all,

be a guiding star above me,

be a bright flame before me,

be a smooth path beneath me,

be a kindly friend beside me,

be a nudging niggle within me,

today, tonight, and forevermore.

Amen.

PRAYER
O Christ, You entered the city as a poor man
not in style but simply,
yet still you caused uproar, and questions everywhere;
you drew the expectations of a hungry crowd,
and brought buried conflicts to the light.
May we who are sometimes swayed by the crowd’s approval,
and who often avoid conflict for fear of its cost to us,
hold fast to the gospel of peace and justice
and follow faithfully in your way of compassion and solidarity
with those who are poor and excluded,
wherever it may lead us. Amen.

Where can I go to find my sacred space?
Everywhere I go I am put here, there,
Because I have no control?
Aha, food glorious food…
Can I find an expression of my spirituality in my cooking?
In my home? Yes?
This is my sacred space.
Sometimes I eat the leftovers,
As long as I have my sacred space.
I commune with God in all things,
I go to church and I look for God in the small glasses of wine
And I see nothing,
But I share in one bowl of rice with my friends
And there I see God alive
In the people around me.
I laugh, I cry, I eat from a banquet,
I nibble on a little biscuit.
Maybe God is the fullness
And in this emptiness too?
God are you there in my isolation, my desolation?
God, you are man, you are woman
I am woman not because I can give birth
Or cook or clean.
I am woman because I am created in your Image.
I know when I suffer, you suffer
When I laugh, you laugh,
Yes, God you are all around me.

CIRCLE OF PRAYER
We think today of the people of Pakistan and the Presbyterian Church of Pakistan. We hold all refugees in our hearts. We pray in particular for those detained for many years in Papua New Guinea & Nauru. We give thanks for progress that has been made and pray that their calls for justice might yet find a compassionate response. In New Zealand, we remember those in Parliament, and today we name Erica Stanford (East Coast Bays electorate) and Jamie Strange (Hamilton East Electorate). Here in the Central Presbytery, we pray for the leaders and people of Kapiti Uniting Parish
 
PRAYER FOR ST ANDREW’S
Renew your people, God,
And renew our life in this place.
Give us a new spirit of unity
with all who follow the Way of Jesus
and new bonds of love
with people of other faiths.

Bless the city in which we live
that it may be a place
where honest dealing,
good government,
the desire for beauty,
and the care for others flourish.

Bless this church
that what we know of your will
may become what we do,
and what we believe
the strong impulse
of our worship and work.
