WELCOME TO ST ANDREW’S ON THE TERRACE
CALL TO WORSHIP
SILENCE
HYMN AA 72 ‘In this familiar place’
Words & Music by Colin Gibson
Words & Music: © 1994 Hope Publishing Co.
- In this familiar place
I know the mystery of your grace
For the love that I receive,
for the truth that I believe
I praise and thank you
for this here and now.
- In halting song and word
the music of your voice is heard
For the love that I receive…………
- Among these friends of mine
I taste the company divine
For the love that I receive…..
- Within this narrow sphere
I learn that you are everywhere
For the love that I receive…….

THE WORD IN TEXTS Heather Macfarlane
Introduction
Hebrew Bible Psalm 121
Words from the Scottish Psalter
Tune: WOV 21 French
I to the hills will lift my eyes.
From whence doth come mine aid?
My safety cometh from our God,
Who heaven and earth hath made.
Thy foot he’ll not let slide, nor will
He slumber that thee keeps.
Behold, he that keeps Israel,
He slumbers not nor sleeps.
The Lord he keeps, the Lord thy shade
On thy right hand doth stay:
The moon by night thee shall not smite,
Nor yet the sun by day.
The Lord shall keep thy soul; he shall
Preserve thee from all ill.
Henceforth thy going out and in
God keep for ever will.
Reflection
New Testament 1 Corinthians 12: 12-27
One Body with Many Parts
Reflection
Hymn (spoken together) ‘Now Be Aware’
Words © 1965 Iris McCoy, Tune: Mit Freuden Zart, public domain WOV 27
1. Now be aware, and glory in
this fellowship with others.
That learns to give and take with grace:
where there is life it gathers.
It deepens joy, it eases strain,
it heartens those who live with pain.
Each strengthens each, together.
2. The wordless touch where sorrow is.
The sharing of a vict’ry:
the flash of mind when insight leaps
to truth, provoked by query.
The freedom of our fellowship
accepts us as we are, and this
is God’s own gift of liberty.
3. Now be aware that hearts and hands
and minds are rich when sharing:
for here within this fellowship
the strength of God is growing.
Now life has reason, love has powers
beyond our own, for into ours
the love of God is flowing.
RESPONSE
For the Word in scripture, story and reflection
for the Word among us,
for the Word within us,
we give thanks.
OFFERTORY MUSIC
OFFERING HYMN Tune: Duke Street WOV 24
Willing hands, to lead the blind,
heal the wounded, feed the poor.
Love embracing all our kind,
charity with liberal store.
OFFERING PRAYER
We recognise and bless the gifts brought to the table, and those which wing their way electronically from our banks to the church’s account.
LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY OF ST ANDREW’S
People share notices and visitors are welcomed. If you have a notice, please move to the front row, ready to speak briefly from the lectern.
For the benefit of newcomers, please introduce yourself before you begin.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Ken Irwin
CIRCLE OF PRAYER
We think today of the people of Guyana and Suriname and Hindu people in Guyana, Suriname and throughout the world. We hold all refugees in our hearts. We pray in particular for those detained for many years in Papua New Guinea & Nauru. We give thanks for progress that has been made and pray that their calls for justice might yet find a compassionate response. In New Zealand, we remember those in Parliament, and today we name Hon Andrew Little and Jan Logie list MPs. Here in the Central Presbytery, we pray for the leaders and people of Tamatea Community Church.
PRAYER FOR ST ANDREW’S
Renew your people, God,
And renew our life in this place.
Give us a new spirit of unity
with all who follow the Way of Jesus
and new bonds of love
with people of other faiths.
Bless the city in which we live
that it may be a place
where honest dealing,
good government,
the desire for beauty,
and the care for others flourish.
Bless this church
that what we know of your will
may become what we do,
and what we believe
the strong impulse
of our worship and work.
Amen
HYMN FFS 29 ‘God speed you on your way’
Words: © 1999, 2000 Shirley Erena Murray
Music: © 2000 Shona Murray
God speed us on your way, safe keep us every day,
give us wing, cause to sing, all this we wish and pray.
God give us space to thrive, all senses kept alive,
health and hope, means to cope, joyfully to arrive.
God lead us to the new, places and points of view,
roads to take, friends to make, more life to travel through.
BLESSING
SUNG AMEN
