PROCESSIONAL HYMN AA 26 ‘Come to our Land’
Words ©1992 Shirley Murray. Music: Colin Gibson © 1992 Hope Publishing Company
1. Come to our land, come to our hearts
Spirit of peace, Spirit of truth
bring in the spring, the hope and the green,
Spirit of growth and Spirit of youth.
And all our people will sing together:
Wairua Tapu, holy your name,
there’s one great Spirit in all creation,
one great Spirit of God!
2. Come to our land, come to our hearts
Spirit of life, breath of new birth,
teach us to care for water and air,
Nourish the seed and cherish the earth,
3. Come to our land, come to our hearts
Spirit of bush, Spirit of bird,
speak to the soul of Aotearoa
joy in your world, and joy in your Word.
WELCOME
Kia ora tatou.

A cacophony of languages
Contemporary reading ‘Suddenly there came a sound’
by Andrew King ©2016
I know there came a day
when a wind began in a certain house
that filled with a light like flame,
and that wind had the roar of justice,
and that wind had the rush of love,
and that wind had the whisper of peace and compassion,
and it carried the words of hope and joy
to an anxious and needy world,
and it was gentle enough to touch the wounded soul
and strong enough to stir the ever-seeking hearts
of women and men, young and old,
from city to distant shores,
and it pulled down walls of distrust and fear
and threw open doors of possibility,
and oaks of hatred have bent in its path
and palisades of pain have fallen to its strength
and new life has spread like scattered seed.
RESPONSE
For the Word in scripture,
for the Word among us,
for the Word within us,
we give thanks.

HYMN HIOS 7 ‘As the wind song through the trees’
Words © 2005 Shirley Erena Murray
Music by Swee Hong Lim © 2005 Hope Publishing Company 2 verses
1. As the wind song through the trees,
as the stirring of the breeze,
so it is with the Spirit of God,
as the heart made strangely warm,
as the voice within the storm,
so it is with the Spirit of God.
2. Never seen, ever known
where this wind has blown
bringing life, bringing power to the world,
as the dancing tongues of fire,
as the soul's most deep desire,
so it is with the Spirit of God.
OFFERTORY MUSIC
OFFERING HYMN AA 127 ‘Take my gifts’
Words © 1992 Shirley Erena Murray, (Admin. by Hope Publishing Company)
Music: ©1992 Colin Gibson Hope Publishing Company
Take my gifts and let me love you,
God who first of all loved me,
gave me light and food and shelter,
gave me love and set me free.
Now because your love has touched me,
I have love to give away;
now the bread of love is rising,
loaves of love to multiply.
OFFERING PRAYER
We recognise and bless the gifts brought to the table, and those which wing
their way electronically from our banks to the church’s account.
LIFE IN THE COMMUNITY OF ST ANDREW’S
People share notices and visitors are welcomed. If you have a notice, please move to the front row, ready to speak briefly from the lectern.
For the benefit of newcomers, please introduce yourself before you begin.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Sonia Groes-Petrie
CIRCLE OF PRAYER
We think today of the people of Germany and the Council of Christian Churches in Germany. We hold all refugees in our hearts. We pray in particular for those detained for many years in Papua New Guinea & Nauru. We give thanks for progress that has been made and pray that their calls for justice might yet find a compassionate response. In New Zealand, we remember those in Parliament, and today we name Ginny Andersen (Hutt South) and Rt Hon Jacinda Ardern (Mt Albert). Here in the Central Presbytery, we pray for the leaders and people of St Luke’s Uniting Church, Rongotea.
PRAYER FOR ST ANDREW’S
Renew your people, God,
and renew our life in this place.
Give us a new spirit of unity
with all who follow the Way of Jesus
and new bonds of love
with people of other faiths.
Bless the city in which we live
that it may be a place
where honest dealing,
good government,
the desire for beauty,
and the care for others flourish.
Bless this church
that what we know of your will
may become what we do,
and what we believe
the strong impulse
of our worship and work.
Amen
PENTECOST SURPRISE
HYMN HIOS 96 ‘Make spaces for Spirit!’
Words: ©2001 Shirley Erena Murray. Music: ©2015 Vivien Chiu. 4 verses
1. Make spaces for Spirit! For energy rising,
for Pentecost presence, the wind and the fire,
a new kind of language, a voice and a vision
to shift and uplift us, to rouse and inspire.
2. Make spaces for action by spirited people:
the leader, the teacher, the healer of ill,
the builder, the artist, the bringer of laughter,
the melding and welding of spirit and will.
3. Make spaces for graces, the gifts of the Spirit,
the fruit of the garden where love is the spring,
the water of blessing, the incense of worship,
the wine poured for sharing, the hope that will sing.
4. Make spaces for Spirit by changing of systems,
by opening prisons, by debtors’ release,
the flaming of courage, the firing of justice,
the Spirit of Jesus, the coming of peace.
BLESSING
SUNG AMEN
