Hello everyone,
November has begun and with it, no doubt, the traditional run down (or up) to Christmas. Oh my goodness! This month of November is like an ever spiralling patchwork quilt of our life together.
Tonight the Spring seminar from St Andrew’s Trust for the Study of Religion and Society begins with Lloyd Geering talking about his heresy trial and Prof Hal Taussig and his wife Rev Susan Cole talking about their threatened trial. Saturday looks to the courage we will need for the future with exciting young speakers lined up. Not registered? Just turn up. www.satrs.org.nz (You could let us know if you are going to come Saturday so we have enough food.) admin@satrs.org.nz
This Sunday’s Gathering, also Parihaka Sunday, focuses on generosity – giving money, time and talents. Four people will speak on what they do here; we’ll will sing a new hymn tune from Vivien; Lynne and Paul will speak to us about what generosity needs to mean for St Andrew’s; and we’ll farewell Karyn who has gifted us time, energy and commitment. Then we’ll celebrate the year in the Annual General Meeting! Reports are at the back of the church. And it is communion – that lovely time when we feast together. A full experience!
November 12 Rev Norman Wilkins will be leading the Gathering – thank you Norman. I am on leave. Norman is also the emergency pastoral back up for the time I am away which is from Monday 6 Nov to Wednesday 15 Nov). See you all again on Thursday 16 Nov.
November 19 is the commemoration for Transgender Day of Remembrance; the Glamaphones choir will join us. We are grateful for their generosity!
November 26 is when Mike and Fiona reveal the artwork choices you have made and we revel in the visual. We also remember St Andrew, of whom we are the namesake.
Then the first Sunday in December begins Advent and that magical mysterious season is here. Where did the year go? See you Sunday!
Susan
